What is Reiki ? .gif)
Reiki (pronounced ray kee) is a natural method of energy healing. The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese kanji, the first is 'Rei' meaning spiritual and the second is 'Ki' meaning energy. When you undergo a Reiki treatment it is this energy that brings balance and harmony to your mind, body and spirit.
In order to practice Reiki one goes through a process called an 'attunement', it is a form of blessing. Without undergoing the attunement process it is not possible to become a Reiki practitioner of any level.
Once a person has been attuned to Reiki through the attunement process called a 'reiju' it will never wear off, however if the person does not practice Reiki as part of their life then it is possible that they may feel it has worn off, this is in fact only the practitioners ability to sense the 'Ki' (energy) that has diminished but the actual Reiki continues to flow.
Reiki is non-diagnostic, non-interventionist, non-manipulative and no pressure is applied. During a Reiki treatment the practitioner directs the healing energy to where it is needed most helping to restore the delicate balance within the client by clearing energy blocks and restoring energy where it is depleted. During a Reiki treatment clients can feel a variety of sensations (such as tingling, warmth etc) as the energy shifts occur.
How does Reiki work ?On a most basic level (for the client) Reiki is a method of relaxation, however it is much more than that and helps to balance mind, body and spirit. It helps to accelerate the body's own natural healing and is a gentle but powerful complimentary treatment.
In the West, other energy practices (such as Yoga or Tai Chi) work with the clearing and balancing of chakras and some Reiki practitioners work with these also. However in
The 3 Diamonds consist of three energy centres, the main one is approximately 3 fingers width below your belly button, it is your main energetic centre. The remaining 2 centres are located in the heart area that you can see in the chakra picture on the left, and the forehead area indicated again in the picutre on the left.
When the flow of 'Ki' becomes disrupted in our bodies and our energy centres then our balance is therefore also disrupted and we may fall ill or become emotionally affected.
During a Reiki treatment energy is passed to the client through the practitioner helping to restore the delicate balance.
You do not need to believe in Reiki for it to work and it is safe for the elderly, disabled, babies, children, pregnant women and those recovering from surgery.
Note: In case of illness or disease I must always stress that you should seek the advice of a qualified GP / Doctor. As Reiki is a complementary therapy and is not intended as an alternative to conventional medicine.
